Traveller Pregnancy Multimedia Resource

The Traveller Health Unit Community Healthcare West in conjunction with members of the Traveller community, Community Health Workers, Traveller Health Projects and health care professionals have produced short videos to help the Traveller Community when trying to access information on pregnancy. Each video clip details a different stage of pregnancy. The Launch Clip can be viewed here…

Beutler Test

The HSE asks that all women from the travelling community hold off on breastfeeding until the baby is tested for Galactosaemia which is very common among Travellers.

Galactosaemia is when the baby can’t process breast milk or regular baby milk. If the baby tests positive it can be very harmful for their brain, liver and kidney. This is why it is really important to tell the hospital that you are the travelling community at your booking appointment when they ask about your ethnicity or cultural background.
